Birmingham Rapist Caught After Daylight Attack on Woman
Mustafa Hakim, 30, was found guilty of a brutal rape that happened in broad daylight in Birmingham. The chilling attack unfolded on July 28, 2017, when Hakim lurked behind a woman walking along the Bourne Brook walkway in Selly Oak.
Woman Dragged Into Woods and Attacked
As the victim headed to catch her bus to work, Hakim suddenly pounced. He assaulted her, dragging her into nearby woods before committing the horrific offence. The harrowing attack only ended when the woman managed to call for help, forcing Hakim to stop and steal her mobile phone.
Police Strongly Build Case with DNA and CCTV
West Midlands Police worked tirelessly, gathering DNA evidence and CCTV footage showing Hakim riding his bike near the scene. Despite overwhelming proof, Hakim denied all involvement during police interviews.
“This was a truly shocking incident where a young woman was attacked in broad daylight,” said DI Scott Shaw of the West Midlands Police Public Protection Unit. “All women and girls should feel safe in public. We take these offences very seriously and work hard to keep dangerous people off the streets, such as Hakim.”
DI Shaw praised the victim’s bravery, saying her testimony was crucial in securing the guilty verdict. Hakim, from Rickyard Piece, Birmingham, was convicted on January 26 and awaits sentencing on April 5.
