Drink-Driver Jailed for Eight Years After Fatal High-Speed Crash
A reckless driver has been slammed with an eight-year prison sentence after killing his passenger in a brutal drink-driving smash. Sharuyan Sasikumar, 23, from Dagenham, Essex, admitted causing death by dangerous driving and being well over the legal alcohol limit behind the wheel.
Speed Demon Loses Control on Knutton High Street
The horror crash unfolded on 25 September last year in Stoke-on-Trent’s Knutton High Street. Sasikumar was racing his Toyota CH-R at a blazing 82 mph — more than double the 30 mph limit — when he lost control. The car careered into a lamppost and railings, leaving his rear-seat passenger, 32-year-old Shejuti Pasha, critically injured. She tragically died later in hospital.
Court Hits Hard with Tough Driving Ban and Jail
At Stoke-on-Trent Crown Court on 26 November, Sasikumar pleaded guilty to causing death by dangerous driving and drink-driving. He was slapped with an 11-year and four-month driving ban, plus an extended retest before he’s allowed behind the wheel again. Breathalyser tests revealed he blew 59µg of alcohol – nearly double the legal limit of 35µg.
Sasikumar’s reckless choices have cost a life and put his driving days on ice for the foreseeable future.
