Chaos on the Ramp: Bus Hangs Over P&O Ferry in Shocking Boarding Blunder
Holidaymakers faced a nerve-wracking spectacle as a bus dangled precariously over the ramp of the Spirit of Kent ferry in Calais. Staff scrambled to sort the tense situation, sparking fresh safety fears about P&O Ferries.
Staff Struggle to Fix Ferry Boarding Fiasco
Images show the vehicle suspended over the gangway, with P&O workers desperately trying to resolve the dangerous mishap. The incident caused a brief delay, but thankfully only one passenger sustained a minor injury.
Union Sounds Alarm Over Safety Cuts
Darren Proctor, Secretary of the RMT Union, slammed P&O’s handling of the crisis amid widespread staff upheavals. He accused the company of “diluted safety” after firing experienced workers and replacing them with agency staff from abroad.
“You cannot replace experience, knowledge, or familiarisation when you fire your employees and replace them with exploited agency workers from all over the world,” Proctor warned.
“That bus could be carrying you and your family. They are charging less because they are cutting corners, exploiting seafarers, and jeopardising the safety of the travelling public while undercutting other operators.”
P&O Responds: ‘Minor Incident’ With No Major Harm
A spokesperson for P&O Ferries played down the drama, calling it a “minor incident” and confirming only one person suffered a grazing injury. The ship resumed normal service shortly after the event.
With many Brits set for summer getaways, questions remain over whether P&O Ferries’ safety standards have taken a hit amid ongoing workforce controversies.
