East London Man Guilty of Killing After Brutal Baseball Bat Attack
A 23-year-old man from East London has been found guilty of manslaughter for smashing a man’s head in with a baseball bat. Emdadul Islam, of Fowler Road, E7, delivered the fatal blow to 31-year-old Titu Miah during a violent brawl in Newham back in 2017.
Baseball Bat Blow Proves Deadly
The chilling attack happened on Plashet Road, Newham, in October 2017, when a fight involving several people quickly spiralled out of control. Islam punched in with a baseball bat, hitting Mr Miah over the back of the head – twice. The victim suffered a fractured skull and died five days later in hospital.
“It appears that Islam was not involved in the initial fight,” said DS Perry Benton, “but he armed himself with the bat and launched a sudden, shocking attack that proved fatal.”
Violence Erupts on Plashet Road
- A 16-year-old boy was also stabbed in the chaos but survived.
- Yasin Patel, 21, was involved too. He stabbed the teenager multiple times and denied grievous bodily harm at first, but later pleaded guilty.
- Patel is believed to have had a run-in with a relative of the stabbing victim before the violence exploded.
The day began when a Mercedes carrying Titu and Patel pulled up near the group of teenagers. The 16-year-old boy ran but was chased down and stabbed by Patel. Mr Miah also assaulted the boy while he was on the ground.
Justice Draws Near
Islam, who had been at a nearby barbershop, left the scene after attacking Mr Miah but quickly returned as emergency services attended the injured.
He was found after police analysed CCTV and traced his BMW. Islam handed himself in days later, was arrested, and charged with manslaughter and weapon possession. Patel was charged in relation to the stabbing shortly afterwards.
Sentencing is set for early May:
- Emdadul Islam: 2 May
- Yasin Patel: 3 May
DS Benton added: “A despicable daylight attack on a residential street led to one man dead and a teenager stabbed. Both offenders now face long jail terms for their part in the violence.”
