Eighteen to Face Court Over Eurovision Euro 2021 Chaos in Maidstone
Almost two dozen suspects are charged following violent disorder in Maidstone linked to the UEFA Euro 2021 football tournament. The disturbances rocked the town centre, with trouble flaring after the England vs Italy final on 11 July 2021.
Charges Include Assaults and Property Damage
The accused face allegations of assaulting police officers and damaging vehicles and property during the disorder. Eighteen men and six teenage boys have been summoned to Maidstone Magistrates’ Court on 14 December 2022.

- Kieran Drew, 23, Norfolk Road, Maidstone
- William Yarnton, 19, Birchwood Road, Maidstone
- Logan Gibson, 21, Captains Close, Sutton Valence, Maidstone
- Joseph Mborah, 27, Mote Road, Maidstone (also charged with criminal damage)
- Lewis Ellerby, 26, Ash Road, Rochester (also charged with assaulting an emergency worker)
- Benjamin Smith, 27, Pickering Street, Maidstone (also charged with assaulting an emergency worker)
- Mark Birch, 27, Longfield Place, Maidstone (charged with assaulting an emergency worker and outraging public decency)
Additionally, four 17-year-olds and two 16-year-olds face charges related to violent disorder and criminal damage.
Police Promise Heavy Presence for World Cup
“This extensive investigation has led to 24 charges linked to unacceptable disorder and violence in Maidstone town centre – some officers were injured,” said Superintendent Richard Woolley, West Kent’s divisional commander.
“We will prosecute football-related criminals, whether inside the stadium or on our streets. With the 2022 World Cup around the corner, we’re boosting patrols and working closely with pubs to ensure the tournament is remembered for the right reasons.”
