Top-Flight Taskforce Tackles UK Home Energy Waste
A dream team of experts has been unveiled to slash energy use in UK homes and buildings. The new Energy Efficiency Taskforce aims to chop national energy consumption by 15% by 2030, compared to 2021 levels.
Government and Industry Leaders Join Forces
Chaired by Minister Lord Callanan and NatWest CEO Alison Rose, the taskforce pulls heavy hitters from industry and academia. Key players include Sir John Armitt, Chair of the National Infrastructure Commission, David Thomas from Barratt Developments, and specialists from the University of Salford, Green Industries Council, and National Energy Action.
They bring diverse expertise to fast-track the government’s green goals, boost the economy, create jobs, and slash energy bills nationwide.
Ambitious Plan to Cut Bills and Fight Inflation
First announced in last year’s Autumn Statement, the taskforce will push faster delivery of home insulation, boiler upgrades, and industrial efficiency improvements. Its mission: cut overall UK energy demand by 15% by 2030, easing inflation and easing pressure on families and businesses.
They’ve already met to map out priorities, explore green financing, fix supply chain glitches, and encourage energy-saving habits.
Leaders Speak Out on Energy Revolution
Lord Callanan: “We’ve gathered the UK’s brightest minds to make real strides in cutting energy use. With smart investment, top engagement, and a strong skills base, this taskforce will power that change.”
Alison Rose, NatWest CEO: “Climate action takes teamwork. This taskforce unites experts across sectors to deliver solid plans for a 15% cut in energy use by 2030. The benefits? Lower bills, safer energy supply, and less carbon.”
£12.6 Billion Backing to Boost UK Supply Chains
The government will pump £12.6 billion into energy efficiency funding this decade, including a fresh £6 billion pot from 2025 onward. This long-term certainty aims to strengthen UK supply chains and supercharge the green overhaul.
