Five Officers Honoured for Cracking Major Child Abuse Case
Five investigators nabbed top honours at a virtual Chief Constable Awards ceremony hosted by Chief Constable Olivia Pinkney and Hampshire’s Lord Lieutenant, Nigel Atkinson.
Detective Inspector Simon Baker, DS Tim Plummer, DS Wendy Harrison, DC Steve Lanham, and PSI Paul Paxford were applauded for their landmark work on Operation Bail, a cutting-edge probe by the Internet Child Abuse Team (ICAT).
Predator Posed as Teen to Exploit 401 Victims
The vile offender hid behind a fake teenage identity on social media to groom and blackmail young boys. He forced them to send explicit images and videos, which he then shared to spread fear and shame.
The horror reaches 401 victims aged between 8 and 18.
He pleaded guilty to 43 offences dating from June 2016 to July 2018, with another 116 offences admitted to be taken into account.
Judge Hits Paedophile with 11-Year Extended Sentence
In June 2020, the predator copped an 11-year extended sentence at Winchester Crown Court — six years behind bars plus five years on licence.
Police had to track down every victim, provide support, and gather tons of evidence in this gruelling investigation.

“This was a very distressing and emotive case for the victims and families involved, requiring excellent communication, empathy, and knowledge of support services,” the citation said.
“Thanks to the professionalism and dedication of these officers, the full extent of the crimes was uncovered, helping the CPS charge the suspect, who entered an early guilty plea.”
