Man Jailed for Life After Hammer and Bike Lock Attacks in Tunbridge Wells Domestic Abuse Case

A vicious abuser who left his partner barely able to speak or walk has been slammed with a life sentence after a shocking year-long campaign of torture near Tunbridge Wells.

Ozgur Suyolcu, 30, homeless, brutally battered his partner with terrifying weapons including a hammer, a bike lock, and even a clothes steamer. The victim suffered catastrophic injuries from repeated, savage assaults.

Emergency Call Uncovers Horrific Abuse

The nightmare ended on 13 April 2024 when police rushed to a distress 999 call from the woman, who feared she was dying. Upon arrival, Suyolcu lied, claiming her injuries were from “attackers” and blocked medical help.

Officers found the victim immobile, gasping for breath. She was hospitalised with:

  • Fractured jaw, ribs, shoulders, and spine
  • Two collapsed lungs
  • Severe bruising and bite marks
  • Burns from a clothes steamer
  • Evidence of historic internal bleeding

The hammer used in the recent beatings was later found hidden behind a chest of drawers.

The final attacks with the hammer and bike lock left her fighting for her life.

Life Sentence Handed Down at Maidstone Crown Court

At Maidstone Crown Court, Suyolcu admitted to causing grievous bodily harm with intent and other offences. On 1 February 2025, he was condemned to life behind bars with a minimum of 13 years, minus time served. An indefinite restraining order bans him from contacting his victim.

Police Praise Victim’s Courage

Detective Constable Emily Hill said: “The sheer brutality of Suyolcu’s actions was horrifying. He regularly beat her, escalating to savage violence with a hammer. Thanks to her extraordinary courage, she survived and got help.”

“She has shown incredible resilience. I hope this sentence brings her closure and safety. If you suffer abuse, come forward. Help is out there—you are not alone.”
