Knife Rampage in Bow Ends with Indefinite Hospital Order

A man plagued by severe mental health issues has been sentenced after a terrifying knife attack spree in Bow. Jeffrey Shing-lok Leung, 41, from Guerin Square, Malmesbury Road, E3, appeared at Snaresbrook Crown Court on Thursday, 25 July, where he was handed an indefinite hospital order.

Terrifying Attack at GP Surgery

On 18 December 2018, at 11am, Leung launched his violent rampage at a Bow GP surgery armed with four knives bought online. He slashed a man in his 30s across the neck as he entered Tredegar Practice. Chaos erupted as Leung lunged at others in the waiting area, stabbing another man in his 30s in the chest and stomach.

Panicked patients fought back with chairs and barricaded themselves behind doors and in toilets as Leung’s frenzy continued.

Rampage Continues at St Stephens Health Centre

Leung fled the practice but kept attacking at nearby St Stephens Health Centre. He stabbed a woman in her 70s multiple times in the neck, chest, and hand. Another victim, a woman in her 50s, suffered wounds to her hand and chest.

A quick-thinking receptionist dialled 999. Remarkably, Leung then calmed, sat in the waiting room, dropped his knives, and waited for police to arrive and arrest him.

Investigation Reveals Troubled Past

Leung had no previous police record but was known to suffer from serious mental health disorders. Detective Constable Megan Bushell of Central East CID, who led the investigation, said:

“Leung has unfortunately suffered from severe mental health disorders in the past and this has led him to carry out a series of sustained violent attacks. All of the victims and witnesses involved in this horrific incident have been left traumatised.”
