Met Police Officer Sacked After Harassing His Wife
PC Matthew Cosgrove has been booted from the Met Police and ordered to cough up over £2,000 following his conviction for harassing his wife, Clair Bolton. The 45-year-old, from Rochester, was found guilty at Westminster Magistrates’ Court last September.
Dismissed Without Warning After Misconduct Hearing
Cosgrove faced a misconduct hearing on December 13 and was dismissed without notice. The Met Police described it as “Gross Misconduct proven for discreditable conduct following the officer’s conviction for Harassment.”
Hefty Court Order: Compensation and Contact Ban
- Ordered to pay £2,156 total:
- £1,000 compensation to his wife
- £1,000 prosecution costs
- £156 victim surcharge
- Banned from contacting Clair Bolton for two years, except via third-party childcare arrangements
Timeline of Harassment Uncovered
The harassment charges cover behaviour from June 23 to August 8, 2022. During this time, Cosgrove subjected his wife to excessive and unwanted communication, which constituted harassment. He either knew or should have known his conduct was unacceptable.
