Groomer Gets Nine Years: Shabaz Hussain Jailed for Child Sex Offences
A 23-year-old man from Cleveland, Shabaz Hussain, has been slammed with a nine-year prison sentence for a string of horrific child sexual offences. The conviction follows a lengthy probe by Cleveland Police’s Paedophile Online Investigation Team (POLIT).
Calculated Grooming from Age 12
Hussain targeted a girl from when she was just 12. He deceived her by pretending to be a child himself and even created a fake female profile to win her trust. This chilling manipulation was uncovered in May 2025, when he was finally brought to justice.
Investigation Unveils Shocking Abuse
Cleveland Police launched their inquiry after receiving a tip-off about Hussain’s suspicious online chats with a minor. The probe revealed persistent predatory behaviour and extensive deception. He was found guilty of multiple charges, including:
- Possession of indecent images of children
- Sexual communication with a child
- Arranging or facilitating child sex offences
- Sexual activity with a child
His sickening abuse escalated to an arranged meeting with the victim at age 15, under false pretences. Forensic analysis of his devices sealed his fate with evidence of a dozen offences.
Police Hail Victim’s Bravery
PC Evans from POLIT praised the victim’s courage:
“I’m relieved he will now spend time in prison.”
“This case highlights the serious dangers of online interaction, especially when young people engage with strangers. Always be cautious.”
Community Safety and Parental Warnings
Cleveland Police are ramping up efforts against online child exploitation. Hussain’s conviction removes a dangerous predator from the streets and offers hope for the young victim and her family’s recovery.
Authorities urge parents and guardians to closely monitor children’s online activity and to talk openly about internet dangers. Support is available from trusted groups like the NSPCC and CEOP.
Ongoing Crackdown on Child Exploitation
This sentencing is part of a wider battle against child sexual abuse in Middlesbrough and the greater Cleveland area. Police continue to urge the public to report any suspicious behaviour and support victims in coming forward.
“Community vigilance remains key,” said PC Evans. “Thanks to this victim’s bravery, a predator is behind bars — but our fight is far from over.”
