Thief nabbed after selling stolen sat nav in Mansfield pawn shop
Car break-in sparks swift police action
Mansfield Central cops were called out at 9.45am on 24 March after a student’s car was broken into on High Oakham Road. The thief made off with her camera gear, plus a sat nav and dash cam.
Criminal caught red-handed in pawn shop
Five days later, officers staked out a pawn shop on 29 March. Inside, Lewis Langley, 32, strolled in trying to flog a sat nav. It was the very one stolen in the break-in.
Sentenced to 30 weeks for receiving stolen goods
Langley, of no fixed address, was arrested on the spot. He later pled guilty at Nottingham Magistrates’ Court and was jailed for 30 weeks on 30 March.
Police praise their “fantastic” investigation
Sergeant Alice Bartle said: “This was a fantastic bit of work by the neighbourhood team and I’m really pleased Langley has been put behind bars. Officers carried out a very diligent investigation and caught him trying to sell stolen goods. It shows why we chase stolen property and aim to return it to victims. It’s always great when we reunite people with their belongings.
“This part of Mansfield has seen a recent spike in vehicle thefts. We hope this sends a strong message that we take reports seriously, work hard to catch offenders, recover stolen items, and bring crooks to justice.”
