13-Year-Old Jailed for Death of Woman in Sheffield Crash
A 13-year-old boy has been sentenced to two years in custody for causing death by dangerous driving. The verdict comes after Marcia Grant, 60, tragically died in a collision earlier this year.
Fatal Smash on Hemper Lane
The crash happened on 15 April in Sheffield’s Greenhill area. Emergency crews rushed to the scene after the boy’s car struck Marcia Grant on Hemper Lane. Despite their efforts, Marcia died instantly from multiple injuries, confirmed by post-mortem reports.
Serious Charges Dropped, Guilty Plea Entered
The teenage driver initially faced murder charges. However, prosecutors later reduced the offence to causing death by dangerous driving and possession of a bladed article. He pleaded guilty to both at a hearing on 3 October.
Sentencing and Family Reaction
At Sheffield Crown Court today, the boy was locked up in a youth offending institution for two years. He was also banned from driving for six years and must take an extended driving test once the ban ends.
“Our thoughts remain with Marcia’s family, who have faced a heartbreaking loss,” said Detective Chief Inspector Andrea Bowell. “Sadly, the justice system can offer little closure in such tragic cases.”
Marcia Grant’s family described the eight months since the crash as “torture,” criticising the criminal justice system. They claim the evidence shows a blatant disregard for life and premeditation. The family also blamed Rotherham Metropolitan Borough Council decisions for contributing to the fatal circumstances.
