Predator Jailed for Over Fifteen Years of Child Abuse
Sajidur Rashid Tipu, 51, of Poplar, has been locked up for 12-and-a-half years for historic child sex abuse. The sentence was handed down on Friday, 28 June, at Snaresbrook Crown Court, alongside a 15-year Sexual Harm Prevention Order and restraining orders protecting his two victims.
Brutal Abuse Spanning Childhood
Tipu was found guilty of 15 counts of historic child sexual abuse against two girls he knew personally. The crimes span over 15 years, leaving lasting psychological scars on the victims.
The case began when one victim bravely reported the abuse to Bethnal Green Police Station in February 2019. The second victim also stepped forward, prompting an intense investigation by the Metropolitan Police.
Met’s Specialist Team Delivers Justice
Tipu was arrested at Heathrow Airport on 24 February 2021 while returning from Bangladesh. A dedicated specialist officer supported the victims throughout, working with charities like Nia, a trusted East London rape crisis organisation.
Detective Constable Paul Clare, who led the case, praised the victims’ courage:
“This offending spanned over formative years of these girls’ lives and caused them intense psychological harm. I’m glad Tipu has now seen justice.”
He added:
“I hope this sends a message to other victims of exploitation to come forward. You will be listened to and supported.”
Spot the Signs of Child Abuse
Perpetrators depend on secrecy, but children often show warning signs, such as:
- Sudden nightmares or sleep issues
- Becoming withdrawn or overly clingy
- Sexualised behaviour with toys or objects
- Personality changes like anger outbursts or eating habit shifts
- Unexplained gifts such as money, phones, or expensive clothes

- 12 years 6 months imprisonment
- 15-year Sexual Harm Risk Order
- 15-year restraining order
The Met continues to strengthen its approach to protecting vulnerable children and urges anyone affected to come forward.
