Leicester Stabbing: Two Sentenced to Life Over Mohammed Jibreel’s Murder
Abdourahmaane Sidibe, 21, and Ali Mohammed, 20, both from Leicester, were yesterday found guilty of murdering Mohammed Jibreel at Leicester Crown Court. Sidibe also faced conviction for possession of an offensive weapon. The brutal stabbing claimed Jibreel’s life last September.
Life Behind Bars for Brutal Stabbing
Sidibe was handed a life sentence with a minimum of 25 years to serve. Mohammed received life imprisonment but with a minimum term of 12 years. A third defendant, Abdullahi Botan, 19, was cleared of murder and manslaughter charges.
Meanwhile, Regouane Delecolle, 20, was convicted for assisting offenders and possession of an offensive weapon. He was sentenced to six years and 11 months in jail.
How the Murder Unfolded
Mr Jibreel was discovered wounded near Leicester’s St Matthews estate on the afternoon of 21 September 2019. Despite emergency medical care, he died early the next day from a severe stab wound to his back.
Police launched a murder probe, scouring CCTV footage showing Sidibe arriving at Mohammed’s address before the pair followed Jibreel into an alley known as ‘The Spine’. Witnesses reported hearing a heated confrontation, then men chasing the victim, who was bleeding badly from knife wounds.
CCTV captured the killers fleeing through nearby streets, eventually being picked up by Delecolle, who drove the getaway car. Police recovered a knife from the scene and pieced together phone data and witness statements in their hunt.
The Manhunt and International Arrest
Ali Mohammed was arrested just days after the stabbing, but Sidibe had fled to France with Delecolle’s help. Working alongside the National Crime Agency and French police, UK officers secured a European arrest warrant. Sidibe was caught near Paris in December 2019 and extradited back to face justice.
Detective’s Warning and Tribute to Victim
Detective Chief Inspector Tony Yarwood said: “This was a senseless daylight attack that robbed a 21-year-old of his life. Sidibe and Mohammed showed zero remorse and tried to dodge responsibility by fleeing, even crossing borders. Knife crime destroys lives and communities. Our message is simple: Do not carry knives.”
“My thoughts are with Mr Jibreel’s family, who have shown incredible bravery throughout this ordeal. Thanks to fearless witnesses and the hard work of police and prosecutors, justice has been done.”
