Racing on A26 Ends in Horror Crash and Life-Changing Injuries
Daish Jaggers and Joshua Knevett were racing each other down the A26 at Beddingham, smashing the speed limit and overtaking on dangerous bends despite double white lines and warning signs. The reckless joyride ended in disaster when Jaggers lost control of his blue Hyundai i30N and crashed head-on into a Mini driven by a 44-year-old woman from Seaford.
Family Left Devastated After Severe Injuries
The woman suffered serious, life-changing injuries to her arms and legs, requiring multiple surgeries. She also broke her sternum and suffered bruising to her lungs. Her 15-year-old daughter broke her collarbone, while her nine-year-old son sustained internal injuries and bruising. Jaggers escaped with severe bruising, but no grave injuries. Knevett, driving a black Renault Clio Sport, was not involved in the collision.
From Nürburgring Thrills to Lewes Courtroom
The pair had just returned from a high-octane weekend at Germany’s famous Nürburgring circuit when the crash happened on the evening of Monday, 27 May 2019. They faced justice at Lewes Crown Court on 6 November.
- Jaggers, 24, a manager from Peacehaven, pleaded guilty to causing serious injury by dangerous driving. He was sentenced to three years in prison and banned from driving for 54 months, requiring an extended retest.
- Knevett, 27, a plumber from Newhaven, pleaded guilty to driving without due care and attention. He received a 12-month driving ban and must pass a standard driving test to get back on the road.
Police Warn: Speeding Kills
“Speeding is one of the five most common causes of fatal and serious injury crashes,” said PC Ian Foxton of Sussex Police’s Serious Collision Investigations Unit. “Jaggers’ dangerous driving has left a family shattered forever. This case shows the devastating consequences of driving recklessly.”
“We thank the witnesses and the family for their bravery in supporting this prosecution. We will continue educating the public about speeding risks and take tough action against those who endanger lives.”
