Lancashire Man Jailed for Smuggling Drugs into HMP Marshgate

A 45-year-old Lancashire man has been slammed with a seven-year prison sentence after getting caught trying to smuggle Class A drugs into HMP Marshgate. Wayne Wilson, from Ashton-under-Lyme, was arrested and convicted at Sheffield Crown Court for trying to sneak illegal drugs into the jail.

Snooker Trap Catches Wilson Red-Handed

The drama unfolded on 23 January 2019 when guards at the prison spotted Wilson passing a suspicious package to an inmate during a visit. Staff quickly seized the parcel and found it packed with heroin and crack cocaine.

Police and Prison Slam Smugglers

Police Constable Morgan Horton said, “We work closely with prisons and hope this sentence sends a clear message to anyone thinking of smuggling drugs or other banned items inside.”

He added, “We have zero tolerance for this kind of crime and will not hesitate to arrest and prosecute offenders.”
