Four Jailed Over Brutal Murder-For-Hire Attack in West Chiltington
Four villains have been locked up for a combined 45 years after plotting a savage murder-for-hire in West Chiltington. The chilling attack took place on December 21, 2019, when a 48-year-old man was lured from his home and stabbed in the chest.
Survivor’s Miraculous Escape From Death
Emergency services rushed to Harbolets Road following a chilling distress call. The victim, left for dead, staggered to safety and survived the brutal assault. His survival shocked investigators and shed light on a sinister conspiracy behind the attack.
Family Feud Turns Deadly: Motive Exposed
The twisted plot involved Emma Giles, her father Mark Giles Snr, brother Mark Giles Jnr, and Emma’s then-boyfriend Sam Millis. Furious at his daughter’s relationship, Mark Giles Snr hired a hitman for £3,000 to eliminate the man. The hitman, now deceased, carried out the horrific deed.
Phone and vehicle data confirmed all four conspirators were near the crime scene, sealing their doom.
Harsh Sentences After Four-Week Trial
At Lewes Crown Court, the jury found the four guilty of conspiracy to murder. Mark Giles Snr got 10 years. Mark Giles Jnr and Sam Millis received 14 years each. Emma Giles was handed seven years behind bars.
“The mental impact of this has left me in such a bad way that I don’t think I will ever fully recover,” the victim revealed in court. “I don’t sleep and when I do I have dreams about what happened. The whole incident, especially having to give evidence, has forced me to take medication for anxiety.”
“I used to have an active social life, but now I avoid the area in case I see anyone involved. I can no longer do the things I considered normal.”
“I just can’t understand why people arranged this. We used to be friends and I loved one of the people involved. All this could have been sorted out in other ways.”
Police Praise Investigation Team’s Hard Work
Detective Sergeant Simon Smith said: “This was a complex betrayal. The victim is extremely lucky to be alive. Proving such a crime is tough, but thanks to our team’s tireless work, we gathered enough evidence to convict all four.”
“Had the hired attacker lived, he would also have faced justice.”
