Woman Charged Over Elderly Scots Scam in Angus
A 33-year-old woman has been arrested and charged after scamming elderly residents in Angus out of thousands of pounds.
Heartless Scam Exploited Vulnerable Seniors
Between October 2023 and May 2024, the suspect allegedly targeted elderly victims by befriending them and then financially exploiting their trust for personal gain. Police confirmed that during this period, a four-figure sum was stolen from vulnerable Scots.
Police Crackdown and Warning to Scammers
The woman is set to appear at Forfar Sheriff Court on Friday, May 10, 2024.
Detective Constable Amanda Sharp said:
“Scammers go to great lengths to manipulate and exploit the most vulnerable within our communities by gaining a person’s affection and using that goodwill to encourage the victim to send money under false pretences.”
She urged anyone who suspects they have been targeted to come forward. “It’s very easy to fall victim to frauds like these, with people understandably reluctant to report it. However, I strongly urge victims to contact police or their bank immediately.”
Sharp also delivered a stark warning to criminals:
“If you engage in this type of crime we will identify, trace and arrest you.”
How to Protect Yourself
