Multiple Stabbings Rock Croydon in One Day
18-Year-Old Critically Hurt in Elmwood Road Stabbing
At 4.13pm on Monday, 20 March, police were called to Elmwood Road, Croydon after an 18-year-old man was stabbed. He remains in hospital in a critical but stable condition.
Two other 18-year-old men were arrested on suspicion of grievous bodily harm and are still in police custody.
Teen Stabbings at Church Street Brawl
Just over an hour later, at 5.25pm, police responded to reports of a fight involving a group of youths on Church Street.
Two 13-year-old boys were found with stab wounds. After hospital checks, their injuries were confirmed as non-life-threatening.
Police arrested two youths aged 13 and 14 — one on suspicion of possessing an offensive weapon and affray, the other for affray.
Both suspects remain in hospital.
Weapons and Violence Trigger Police Stop and Search Powers
Following the incidents, authorities imposed a Section 60 Order, giving officers extended stop-and-search rights across Croydon.
Late Night Chaos on Cudham Drive
At 9.51pm, police and London Ambulance Service rushed to Cudham Drive after reports of a group armed with weapons damaging a vehicle. Alarm bells rang over claims of a stabbing and shots fired, but officers found no evidence of gunfire.
Armed police found a man with a minor hand cut. No arrests have been made so far.
Police Chief Vows to Crack Down on Croydon Violence
Superintendent Mitch Carr, South Area Command Unit, said: “Croydon residents will rightly be concerned by this spate of shocking violent incidents. We share those concerns and are working hard to bring the perpetrators to justice.
“Several people remain in custody. At this stage, there’s no evidence linking the incidents—they appear isolated. We do not and will not tolerate violence on our streets.
“Residents can expect heightened police presence across the borough. If anyone has information, please report it immediately.”
