20-Year-Old Arrested in West Sussex Terror Sting
Police swooped in at 5am today to nab a 20-year-old man in Worthing, West Sussex, amid a terror probe. Detectives from Counter Terrorism Policing South East (CTPSE) arrested him on suspicion of terrorism offences under the Terrorism Act 2000.
Intelligence-Led Arrest Linked to Islamist Terror
The suspect remains in custody while officers search his home. The arrest was based on intelligence pointing to involvement in planning or inciting an Islamist-related terror act.
Detective Chief Superintendent Kath Barnes, head of CTPSE, said: “This arrest forms part of a pre-planned operation by CTPSE, working alongside Sussex Police. I would like to thank the local community for their patience while we carry out searches and continue our investigation.”
Police Stress No Specific Threat to Public
Chief Inspector Sarah Leadbeatter, district commander for Adur, Worthing and Horsham, added: “Sussex Police are working closely with Counter-Terrorism investigators on this intelligence-led operation. This is not in response to any specific threat in our local area.”
Enquiries are ongoing.
