Worker Crushed to Death in Birmingham Building Horror

A devastating accident at a Birmingham Jewellery Quarter construction site has claimed the life of labourer Oleksander Rudyy. The tragedy unfolded on May 8, 2019, when a wall collapsed, burying Mr. Rudyy beneath bricks. Despite the desperate efforts of emergency crews, he sadly died from his injuries.

Cost-Cutting Blamed for Fatal Collapse

Company boss Simon Briggs, director of Stonehurst Estates Ltd, prioritised savings over safety. The court heard Mr. Rudyy wasn’t a trained builder but was ordered to remove steel rods crucial to the wall’s structure. This dangerous mistake led to the fatal wall collapse, which also seriously injured another worker.

A post-mortem revealed Mr. Rudyy died from crushing asphyxia and catastrophic chest injuries.

Boss Escapes Jail, Company Fined Nearly Half a Million

Briggs was handed a 23-week prison sentence suspended for 18 months and ordered to complete 100 hours of unpaid work. His company pleaded guilty to corporate manslaughter and health and safety breaches, fined a hefty £450,000. The lenient jail ruling has sparked public fury.

Widow’s Heartbreaking Plea for Justice

Mr. Rudyy’s widow, Neonila Ruda, slammed the lack of proper supervision and training on site. “This tragedy could have been avoided with basic safety measures,” she said, mourning the loss of her husband. The case is a stark warning on what happens when workplace safety is ignored.

The controversy continues as the public demands tougher penalties to ensure bosses think twice before putting lives at risk.
