Woman in 50s Found Dead in Gateshead Home – Murder Probe Underway
Northumbria Police have launched a murder investigation after discovering the body of a woman in her 50s inside a house on Sunderland Road, Gateshead, in the early hours of Thursday morning.
Man, 42, Arrested After Suspicious Behaviour
A 42-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder following reports of suspicious activity late Wednesday night. Police believe the case is isolated and all individuals involved are known to each other. Authorities have reassured the public there is no wider threat.
Police Appeal for Witnesses
Detective Chief Inspector Matt Steel of Northumbria Police’s Major Investigation Team urged anyone who saw a man acting suspiciously around Sunderland Road, Durham Road, or the A167 junction between 10:30pm Wednesday and 12:30am Thursday to come forward.
“I am today appealing for anybody who witnessed a man acting suspiciously in the areas of Sunderland Road and Durham Road, including the junction with the A167, between 10.30pm yesterday and 12:30, to get in touch.”
Family Supported; Suspect in Custody
The woman’s family has been informed and is receiving police support during this difficult time. The suspect remains in custody as the investigation continues.
