Fireworks Shop Goes Up in Smoke in Southall!
Six Fire Engines Battle Blaze
About 40 firefighters armed with six fire engines swarmed a fireworks shop on South Road, Southall, on Saturday night. The blaze damaged a flat roof, a stack of cardboard, and a sliver of the building’s exterior. A three-metre stretch of wooden fencing was also destroyed. Thankfully, no one was hurt.
Fire Spread Fueled by Cardboard
Station Commander James Berry, who led the operation, revealed the fire likely sparked and spread from stored cardboard at the rear of the shop. Crucially, no fireworks ignited during the incident.
“Seven people left the building before firefighters arrived,” said Commander Berry. “South Road was closed for about 30 minutes as crews worked to make the scene safe, causing temporary diversions.”
“This incident is a stark reminder: only put rubbish and recycling out on collection days. Never store flammable materials in corridors, stairwells, or escape routes. Keep flammable substances locked away safely, not left out in the open.”
Fast Response from Multiple Fire Stations
The Brigade was called at 7:14pm, and the fire was under control by around 8:07pm. Fire crews from Southall, Ealing, Hillingdon, and Heston fire stations rushed to the scene to tackle the blaze.
Investigation Underway
The cause of the fire remains under investigation by the Brigade and the Metropolitan Police Service. Authorities are working to determine how the flames ignited amid the stored cardboard.
