Man Seriously Injured After Mystery Assault and Crash in South End, Croydon
Police have launched a probe after a man was left gravely injured in a crash involving a van on Saturday afternoon in South End, Croydon.
Emergency Rush to Scene
At around 4.10pm on 16 August, emergency services responded to reports of a collision between a van and a 40-year-old man. The victim was treated at the scene before being rushed to a London major trauma centre, where he remains with potentially life-changing injuries.
A London Ambulance Service spokesperson said:
“We were called at 16:07 to reports of a road traffic collision on South End, Croydon. We sent multiple resources to the scene, including an ambulance crew, an Advanced Paramedic, an incident response officer, and London’s Air Ambulance. Our crews treated a person at the scene before taking them to a London major trauma centre.”
Possible Assault Before Crash
Metropolitan Police investigations suggest the victim may have been assaulted before the collision. This could explain how he ended up in the path of the van. The van driver was questioned at the scene but has not been arrested.
Road Closures and Appeal for Witnesses
A police cordon remains in place, causing major traffic disruption and bus reroutes through South Croydon into the evening.
Detectives are urging anyone with information to come forward. A Met Police spokesperson said:
“Anyone with information which could assist the investigation is asked to call 101 quoting CAD 5026/16Aug.”
Information can also be given anonymously to Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
