Lee, head of the main opposition Democratic Party, was conscious after the attack, though his full condition is still unclear. Reports say a man in his 50s or 60s approached Lee for an autograph before suddenly lunging with a knife-like weapon. Authorities quickly restrained and arrested the attacker.

YTN TV captured Lee grimacing in pain before collapsing. Bystanders pressed a handkerchief to a roughly 1cm neck wound. Lee has since been rushed to a local university hospital for treatment.
