Police Urge Drivers to Stay Vigilant

“Vehicle crime hits victims hard,” said Detective Supt. Mark Weller. “Repairs are expensive and losing a car makes daily life a struggle – from work to school runs. We want motorists to protect their vehicles and report anything suspicious immediately. We’re working with CCTV, car parks, and scrap dealers to crack down on these thieves.”

How to Protect Your Ride

  • Contact your car maker about clamps or security cages designed to block catalytic converter theft.
  • Park in a garage whenever possible.
  • If no garage, choose busy, well-lit areas to park.
  • Fit quality CCTV cameras around parking spots.
  • Security-mark and register your converter’s metal shell to help recovery if stolen.

Kent Police are pushing scrap metal dealers to trace stolen parts and clamp down on illegal operations. Motorists should stay alert and report suspicious activity immediately.
