Man, 27, Killed in Horror Crash with Police Car in Peacehaven

A 27-year-old man died at the scene after a shocking collision involving an unmarked police car on Saturday night in Peacehaven. The tragic crash happened on the A259 South Coast Road at around 11:10pm on April 30.

IOPC Takes Over Investigation as Sussex Police Stay Silent

The Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) is leading the probe into the deadly collision, which has put Sussex Police on the sidelines from sharing details. Chief Superintendent Jo Banks expressed sympathy, saying, “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who tragically died in this collision.” She added Sussex Police are fully cooperating with the IOPC to ensure a thorough investigation.

Public Urged to Come Forward with Witnesses & Footage

IOPC Regional Director Graham Beesley urged witnesses to step up: “We appreciate concerns in the community and are working hard to find out exactly what happened. We’re reviewing dashcam footage from the public, police body cams, radio transmissions, and officers’ accounts.”

The IOPC has already received some dashcam footage and is carrying out house-to-house inquiries and CCTV checks in the area.

“We would appeal to anyone with information or mobile phone footage to contact us,” Beesley said. “We want to ensure all witnesses are heard.”
