Kent’s Best Bar None Scheme Cracks Down on Night-Time Crime

Kent Police, backed by Dover District Community Safety Partnership, has rolled out the Best Bar None accreditation scheme. It aims to slash alcohol-fuelled crime and boost safety in pubs, clubs, and bars across the region.

Six Venues Awarded for Raising the Bar on Safety

On Tuesday 15 November 2022, six venues in Dover and Deal were honoured at Dover District Council for their commitment to safer nights out. The winners include:

  • The Duchess (Dover)
  • The Eight Bells (Dover)
  • The Cricketers (Dover)
  • The Elephant and Hind (Dover)
  • The Sir Norman Wisdom (Deal)
  • Queen Street Tap (Deal)

Chief Inspector Paul Barrell of Dover District Police and Cllr Oliver Richardson, Dover District Council’s Cabinet Member for Community and Chairman of the Community Safety Partnership, presented the awards.

Police Chief Urges More Venues to Join the Safety Drive

“Kent Police is committed to protecting everyone in the county,” said Chief Inspector Barrell. “We’ve been working hard to make sure women and girls feel safe whether at work, home, or enjoying a night out.

A key part of this is working with pubs and clubs to promote responsible socialising and looking after customers. Congratulations to the venues recognised this week. I urge more to join in and help keep our district safe.”

Cllr Oliver Richardson added: “We’re delighted to partner with Kent Police on this scheme. It highlights community safety standards and sends a clear message that everyone can enjoy a safe night out.”

How Best Bar None Works

Supported by Dover Partnerships Against Crime (DPAC), the Home Office, and the drinks industry, Best Bar None is spreading across Kent. Venues signing up work closely with police and councils to cut crime and protect communities.

To get accredited, venues must prove excellence in four key areas:

  • Venue management
  • Staff training and care
  • Customer safety and welfare
  • Customer service and community engagement

Successful venues display special signs showing their commitment to safety.
