A crane fire on the M25 in Kent has resulted in the closure of three lanes, causing significant traffic congestion and delays for motorists. The incident occurred on the anti-clockwise carriageway between Junction 6 Godstone Interchange and Junction 5 Chevening Interchange.
The fire, which broke out earlier, prompted a swift response from Kent Fire & Rescue. Firefighters were able to extinguish the blaze, but the affected lanes remain closed to facilitate the recovery of the damaged crane. Once the recovery operation is completed, it is expected that the road surface will require repairs.
As a result of the ongoing lane closures, traffic is backed up for approximately 8 miles in the affected area. Motorists travelling between Junction 6 and Junction 5 should anticipate delays of around 90 minutes.
National Highways urges drivers who have planned routes passing through the affected section to allow for extra travel time. It is recommended to plan ahead, considering alternative routes or potentially delaying the journey if possible.
