New Barrister Boss Takes Charge of South Bank Housing Co-op

Hashi Mohamed, a London-based barrister and social housing expert, has been named Chair of Coin Street Secondary Housing (CSS). Known for specialising in planning and environment law, Hashi is also the author of A Home of One’s Own, a hard-hitting book on the UK housing crisis. When he’s not in court, he’s a broadcaster and public speaker.

Fresh Faces Join Coin Street Board

Hashi isn’t alone in shaking up the CSS leadership. Six new members have joined the board, bringing fresh ideas and energy. Together, they are set to work closely with the SE1 community and residents to shape the future of co-operative housing on the South Bank.

Hashi’s Vision: Community and Solidarity at the Heart of SE1

Hashi Mohamed, Chair of Coin Street Secondary Housing, said: “It’s an enormous privilege to be elected Chair of CSS. Filling the shoes of Keith Jenkins won’t be easy, especially during this time of change. We thank him and others stepping down for their decades of dedication. I am proud to lead a new Board packed with talented professionals who are committed to honouring our rich history and building a bright future. At our core are community, valued homes, and solidarity right here on the South Bank. I look forward to working with locals to make this wonderful place even better.”

Community Builders Praise Hashi’s Appointment

David Hopkins, Director of Community at Coin Street Community Builders, said: “We’re thrilled Hashi Mohamed is leading Coin Street Secondary Housing’s next chapter. Great social housing in central London’s heart matters more than ever. Hashi is one of the UK’s strongest voices on why having a place to call home is crucial to life’s foundations. We also thank outgoing chair Keith Jenkins for his pivotal role in establishing our co-op housing here on the South Bank, along with long-time members Neil Cole and Phil Morris for their hard work.”
