Newborn Baby Abandoned on Hackney Doorstep – Police Urge Mother to Come Forward
Detectives in Hackney are on the hunt for the mother of a newborn baby boy found abandoned on a doorstep last Saturday, 25 January. Police fear for her welfare and are desperate to offer her medical help and support.
Baby Edward Found Only Hours Old
A concerned member of the public called officers at around 11.40am on 25 January after spotting the tiny tot on Sandringham Road, E8. The baby, named Edward by hospital staff in tribute to his rescuer, was just 12 hours old when discovered.
He was dressed in a grey babygrow, a grey hat, and wrapped in a white knitted blanket. Baby Edward has been rushed to an east London hospital where he is now safe, healthy, and getting the best care.
Detectives Plead for Mother to Step Forward
“Edward is safe and well and your health and wellbeing is our priority,” said Detective Sergeant Andy Barry of the Central East Area Safeguarding Unit.
“I understand how daunting becoming a parent can be. If you’re Edward’s mother, please come forward – we want to help you, not cause trouble.”
“If anyone has information or was in the Sandringham Road area between 10am and 12pm on 25 January, please contact us urgently.”
