Detectives are appealing to the public for assistance as they investigate an attempted robbery that took place in Mossley Hill on September 14. The incident involved two masked individuals armed with an axe who targeted a security guard outside Barclays on Allerton Road around 2.30pm
In a bold daylight attack, the assailants attempted to seize the driver’s key to open a cash box inside a van. However, the vigilant security guard managed to thwart the robbery by quickly securing the vehicle. The suspects hastily fled the scene in a black Audi, which had been parked on Garthdale Road and was driven by a third accomplice.
Thankfully, the security guard emerged from the confrontation unharmed. Detectives have since been working diligently to apprehend the culprits, conducting extensive CCTV and witness inquiries. Now, they have released a CCTV image of two individuals whom they believe may hold crucial information to advance the investigation.
Detective Inspector Christopher Carlin strongly condemned the attack, emphasizing, “To target and threaten someone with a weapon who was simply carrying out their job in our community is dangerous and unacceptable behaviour. We are determined to find those responsible and bring them to justice.”
The public is urged to come forward with any information about the two men featured in the released image. Detective Carlin underscored the importance of community cooperation, encouraging those with pertinent details to contact Merseyside Police directly via their social media channels, including @MerPolCC on Twitter and ‘Merseyside Police Contact Centre’ on Facebook.
