Tribute to George Ridges, 92, After Fatal Car Park Incident
Tragedy struck on 6 February when 92-year-old George Ridges died after an incident involving a car in a High Road car park just after 1.45pm.
Remembering a Remarkable Life
George’s family shared a heartfelt tribute: “He had extraordinary knowledge and love of woodwork, building all the furniture in their first home with Sheila. A true green finger, he grew his own vegetables and even brewed his own wine in the late 1970s. He loved developing photographs and word searches.”
“George was an adventurous spirit who danced with Sheila five nights a week. Unpredictable, funny and full of life — he was everything we are proud of. We’ve had the privilege of witnessing incredible times with him.”
Barber, Family Man, and Local Legend
“George started his barbering career in Tilbury 58 years ago at age 20, knowing every aspect of the business. No one worked harder. His shop was the heart of the community — you’d always hear his booming laugh and jokes before you even stepped inside.”
“He was a talented, kind, and intelligent man, beloved by customers and friends alike.”
Family, Friends, and Ongoing Investigation
George was married to Sheila for 72 years, living in Tilbury for 58. He leaves behind three children, five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, and countless friends.
