Sussex Police Warn: Stay Home This Weekend Despite the Sunshine
With temperatures set to soar this weekend, Sussex Police are urging the public to stay put and protect NHS resources. Don’t risk it by heading out for anything other than essential travel.
Brighton Chief Pleads: Use Common Sense, Stay Home
Brighton and Hove Divisional Commander Nick May said: “We get it, everyone wants to enjoy the nice weather. But please, follow government guidance to protect the NHS and save lives.”
He added: “Avoid travelling to neighbouring towns, cities, or crowded spots like beaches and parks. One daily outing for exercise is allowed, but only from your home and with proper social distancing.”
Police Ready to Enforce Rules – Don’t Test Their Patience
Police will keep patrolling public spaces, engaging and explaining the rules. But if you ignore them, expect enforcement action.
“We know it’s tough, and sacrifices are hard, but sticking to the rules helps save lives,” said May. “For now, the priority is clear: stay home, avoid contact, and stop Covid-19 spreading.”
When Can You Leave Home?
The government says you can only leave for very limited reasons:
- Shopping for essentials like food or medicine
- One form of exercise a day – a run, walk, or cycle – alone or with your household
- Medical needs, including donating blood or caring for vulnerable individuals
- Travel to work, but only if you absolutely cannot work from home
Sussex Police thank everyone for their patience during these trying times. Remember, staying home now means a safer tomorrow.
