A frantic rescue mission kicked off after a teenager plunged from a 30-foot bridge onto a live railway line in Winchester, it has emerged.

Emergency Crews Race to Scene Near Peter Symonds College

Just past 1am on Tuesday, December 7, police, fire crews, the South Central Ambulance “HART” team, ambulance doctors, and Network Rail staff scrambled to help the 18-year-old who jumped from the bridge.

Specialist Rope Rescue Called In

Due to the tricky location, Hampshire and Isle of Wight Fire & Rescue’s specialist rope rescue and USAR teams were drafted in to reach the injured teen.

Live Railway Power Shut Down for Safety

To ensure safety during the daring rescue, the railway line’s power was isolated, halting trains as emergency services worked against the clock.
