Burglar Nabbed Within 7 Minutes After Breaking Into Woman’s Home
A man was caught red-handed trying to nick a car just minutes after breaking into a woman’s house while she slept. Dyfed-Powys Police swooped on Scott Turnbull, 33, after a quick-thinking homeowner in Llanelli raised the alarm.
Dramatic Early Morning Break-In
On September 30, the victim woke up to lights switching on and “heavy footsteps” upstairs. She shouted from her bedroom, which made Turnbull, who was inside the house in Clos y Deri, try to push past her before fleeing. The terror didn’t end there – her home was ransacked, with drawers emptied and a knife left menacingly on the kitchen floor.
Chase for Stolen Car Keys Ends in Arrest
After finding her car keys missing, the woman spotted Turnbull sitting in the driver’s seat. A struggle over the keys ended when the keyring snapped, but the intruder fled on foot. The victim dialled 999 immediately.
Police acted fast. One patrol car arrived within minutes and radioed a description to others nearby. Officers soon found Turnbull carrying items from the burglary, including the woman’s purse and a key to her house.
Swift Justice for Victim
- Turnbull was arrested within seven minutes of the call
- Fingerprints linked him to the crime scene
- The victim positively identified him during ID parade
- He appeared at Swansea Crown Court on November 5
- Sentenced to five years in prison for burglary
Detective Sergeant Katie Cuthbertson said: “Turnbull is a prolific burglar who caused a victim to feel fear in her own home, and has now been brought to justice.”
