Train Pervert Jailed for Molesting Young Girl on Merseyrail
Michael Hunt, 64, of Formby, Merseyside, has been locked up for 10 months after a jury at Liverpool Crown Court found him guilty of sexually assaulting a young girl on a train. He was also slapped with a 10-year sex offenders’ register order.
Disgraceful Attack on Seaforth and Litherland Train
The court heard how, on April 11, 2019, the victim boarded the train at Seaforth and Litherland station. Hunt had already got on at Moorfields station and moved to sit opposite her shortly into the journey. The victim appeared to be asleep.
A vigilant train guard spotted Hunt moving his hand between the girl’s legs. When confronted, Hunt denied the molestation, but the guard threatened to call police. Hunt then bailed the train at Freshfields before officers arrived.
Victim Traumatised, Hunt’s Denial ‘Cowardly’
The shocked girl woke up distressed and confided in a fellow passenger about the abuse. CCTV from Moorfields station helped police track down Hunt, who voluntarily handed himself over at home.
“This was a disgusting, opportunist attack on a young girl who was making her way home after a day out with friends,” said DC Dom Wilcox, lead investigator. “To deny the offence and put his victim through the further distress of a trial was cowardly. She should have been able to travel in safety without falling victim to Hunt’s vile and unwanted behaviour.”
