Angry Ex Trashes Royal Oak Underpass in Brutal Assault
Danny Hewitt, 23, from Westminster, has been handed an 18-month community order after a savage attack on his ex-girlfriend at the Royal Oak Station underpass in W12.
18 Months Community Order – Plus 250 Hours Unpaid Work
At Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday 5 January, Hewitt was sentenced to 18 months on a community order. He must also complete 250 hours of unpaid work and attend a 25-day rehabilitation programme. On top of that, he was ordered to pay £775 costs and a £95 victim surcharge.
Witnesses Save Victim, Help Nail Attacker
The violent drama unfolded in the early hours of Sunday 3 May. Around 1:20am, a railway worker spotted Hewitt trespassing in the underpass. The man was trying to climb over a wall to retrieve his phone – allegedly thrown by his ex during a heated row.
The worker warned Hewitt off, but he snapped and told him to mind his own business. The witness called police and went to write an incident report. Soon, he heard shouting and screams. Joined by a second rail worker, they discovered the terrified woman on the floor calling for help.
Police were called again and rushed to the scene. Both witnesses told officers they saw Hewitt kicking, punching and kneeing the victim. She had a cut to her head and said her leg was injured.
Hewitt was arrested for grievous bodily harm at 1:51am and charged with assault by beating the next day.
Police Praise Brave Witnesses
Detective Constable Mahmudha Ali said: “This case shows how third party reporting can bring violent perpetrators to justice even when victims can’t or won’t testify.”
“Huge thanks to the two rail workers who not only called the police but provided crucial evidence. Without them, this case might never have reached court.”
“If you’re worried about someone or at risk yourself, please call us. We’re here to help.”
