Cold case breakthrough: Two men arrested over brutal 1984 Tube murder
Anthony Littler found dead near finchley/">East Finchley Tube
Anthony Littler, from Leslie Road, N2, was fatally attacked just after midnight on 1 May 1984. He left East Finchley Tube Station around 12.15am but was discovered with severe head injuries in a dark alley off East End Road. Police pronounced him dead at the scene.
Random attack leaves killer free for decades
Officers believe Anthony was the victim of a random murder. Despite extensive investigations, no charges were brought at the time and the motive remained a mystery—until now.
Two arrested in fresh murder probe
- On 10 December, a 58-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of murder. He was quickly bailed pending further inquiries.
- A 54-year-old man was also held on 13 December and released on bail in January.
Detectives continue to hunt for more witnesses and information to crack the case.
Police urge public to come forward
Detective Chief Inspector Neil John, leading the investigation, said: “These arrests came just days after our latest appeal. Thanks to everyone who has come forward, but we still need anyone who witnessed anything before Anthony’s murder to contact us.”
