Family Survives Horror Crash After Car Hits Live 11,000 Volt Power Cable on A3
A family escaped with their lives after their car slammed into high voltage power cables on the busy northbound A3 near Bramshott Chase last night.
Storm Winds Bring Down Live Power Cables
Storm-force winds tore an 11,000-volt cable down onto the live lanes of the A3 trunk road. A car hit the fallen cable, causing chaos on the road.
Car Flips and Rolls – Child Injured
The vehicle struck the cable, and a second car tailgating behind smashed into it, flipping onto its roof and tumbling down a nearby gully. The driver walked away without serious injuries.
A young child in the same car was rushed to hospital with a broken arm and other injuries.
Full Road Closure Sparks Massive Tailbacks
Both carriageways of the A3 were shut while Surrey emergency services and local fire crews secured the scene. A fully loaded petrol tanker was just four car lengths behind the crash, adding to the danger.
Traffic jams stretched for three miles as motorists scrambled for alternative routes.
Power Outages Hit Local Homes
Specialists from Scottish and Southern Electricity Network were brought in to make the damaged cables safe. Several homes in the area remain without power following the incident.
