During the court proceedings, Detective Garda Alan Johnson provided testimony regarding the arrest, charge, and caution of Mr. Rajan. He stated that at 2.45 am on Sunday, at Togher Garda Station in Cork City, the formal murder charge was presented to Mr. Rajan, who remained silent in response.

In his defence, solicitor Eddie Burke requested that his client receive psychiatric evaluation while in prison due to ongoing depression. The request was granted, and Judge Olann Kelleher ensured that Mr. Rajan would receive the necessary medical attention while in custody. As Mr. Rajan faces a murder charge, bail could not be granted in the District Court.

Mr. Rajan, dressed in a dark shirt and pants, was remanded in custody and is scheduled to appear via video link at Cork District Court again on Thursday. Additional directions from the Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP) will be sought in the case, while an interpreter will not be required as Mr. Rajan is fluent in English.

Originally from India, Mr. Rajan and his wife had recently relocated to Cork, where Deepa Dinamani worked as a senior manager in fund services at a company based in the Airport Business Park. The couple had a five-year-old son, and their family home in Cardinal Court became the site of this tragic event.

Deepa Dinamani was found deceased in a bedroom of the property after concerns were raised when she failed to collect her son from a friend’s house. The authorities were immediately alerted, and her body was transferred to Cork University Hospital for autopsy examination. A forensic examination also took place at the couple’s home in Wilton, which remained cordoned off as investigators gathered evidence.
