Dagenham Murder: Victim Named as John Avers

Detectives have identified the 47-year-old man killed in a hit-and-run in Dagenham. John Avers tragically died after being struck by a car that fled the scene.

Fatal Collision on Whalebone Lane South

Police were called to Whalebone Lane South car park at 11:43pm on Sunday, 13 September, following reports of a collision between a vehicle and a pedestrian. Paramedics rushed to the scene but John was pronounced dead shortly after.

A post-mortem confirmed he died from multiple injuries.

Homicide Probe Underway – Police Seek Witnesses

Detective Chief Inspector Mark Wrigley of the Met’s Specialist Crime North team said, “We believe John was deliberately harmed. This is being treated as a murder inquiry.”

“My thoughts are with John’s family at this very sad time. We are using every tactic to find who’s responsible.”

He urged anyone who was nearby to come forward. “If you know anything, don’t keep it to yourself. You can also contact Crimestoppers anonymously.”
