Two suspected burglars have appeared in court after a car, reported stolen from Ditton, was involved in a collision with two police vehicles.

At 5.03am on Saturday 18 April 2020, the owner of a VW Polo called Kent Police stating it had been stolen from Primrose Drive after the keys were taken during a burglary.

Around five minutes later a police patrol saw the car on the Londonbound carriageway of the M20 and followed it onto the M25.

As the VW travelled into Essex, the officers sought to stop the car, which was then involved in a collision with two police vehicles before coming to a halt.

Two boys aged 16 and 17, both from Greater London, were arrested. The officers also seized a screwdriver, balaclava, gloves, a set of car keys and a small bag of cannabis.

The teenagers were later charged with burglary and aggravated vehicle taking. The 16-year-old was additionally charged with driving otherwise than in accordance with a licence and driving without insurance, while the 17-year-old was also charged with possession of cannabis.

Both appeared before Medway Magistrates’ Court on Monday 20 April where they were remanded to a hearing at Medway Youth Court on 28 April.
