Two Men Jailed Over £2,700 Daesh Terror Funding
Counter Terror Police Shut Down Terror Cash Pipeline
Counter Terrorism Police have slammed the brakes on a terror funding operation, sentencing two men to a combined 14 and a half years behind bars. Ayub Nurhussein, 29, from Stockwell, and Said Mohammed, 30, from Longsight, Manchester, were caught sending around £2,700 to Daesh fighters in Iraq and Syria.
Coordinated Police Raids Uncover Terror Plans
The Met’s Counter Terrorism Command and Counter Terrorism Police North-West joined forces to bust the pair. The criminals communicated with a suspected Iraqi contact and moved money through Danish intermediaries in April, June and July 2019. Police arrested them on 16 July 2019 in a swoop on their homes. Digital evidence including phones and chat logs revealed their plotting, while Nurhussein also held documents deemed useful for terrorism.
Justice Served at the Old Bailey
Both men faced terror charges in July 2019. Mohammed pleaded guilty in January 2020 to arranging terrorist funds. Nurhussein admitted multiple charges including terrorism funding and possession of terror-related documents. Sentencing on 24 April 2020 handed down hefty prison terms:
- Nurhussein: 9 years 6 months (TACT 2000 – possession of terror info), 4 years 6 months (TACT 2006 – disseminating terrorist material), 7 years 3 months (TACT 2000 – funding terrorism), all sentences run concurrently with extended licence of 3 years 6 months.
- Mohammed: 5 years 3 months, factoring in his early guilty plea.
