‘The Bill’ Star George Rossi Dies Aged 60
George Rossi, best known for playing DC Duncan Lennox on ITV’s hit drama The Bill, has died aged 60. The news was confirmed by his niece Louise on Twitter, who said: “Unfortunately George Rossi who played DC Duncan Lennox passed away the morning of Wednesday 5th January 2022.”
She added, “This is my uncle. He was acting still up until recently. Unfortunately he passed away yesterday morning.”
From Stage to Screen: Rossi’s Career Highlights
Rossi, the son of a French father and Italian mother, was a familiar face on British TV. He trained at East 15 Acting School in Debden, Essex, and made his film debut in the 1984 Scottish comedy Comfort and Joy, acting alongside his brother Peter and Bill Paterson.
In the 1990s, he shared the screen with big names like Liam Neeson (The Big Man), Jean Reno (Roseanna’s Grave), and Sandra Bullock (In Love and War).
He first appeared as DC Duncan Lennox in a 1993 episode of The Bill, later returning as a regular from 1998 to 2003, racking up nearly 200 episodes. After leaving the show, Rossi played DC John McCormack in Whitechapel and also appeared in popular series including The Singing Detective, Roughnecks, Hotel Babylon, Taggart, Holby City, and Boon.

Tributes flooded social media after news of Rossi’s death broke. Ben Peyton, who played PC Ben Hayward on The Bill, tweeted:
“Sad to hear that a pal from #TheBill has died. George Rossi was such a gent, very funny and a brilliant actor. I remember when I’d just started and we had to talk together in the background of a scene before I walked out of shot and he carried the scene on.”
Actress Tracie Bennett added:
“R.I.P. George Rossi. Can’t believe it. We used to laugh til we cried. Also a very gentle and a wonderful man. Gone too young. Condolences to family. Go well my lovely.”

George Rossi leaves behind his wife Catrin and two children. He will be deeply missed by family, friends, and fans alike.
