Brighton Gears Up for Major Coastal Defence Overhaul
Big plans are underway to shield Brighton & Hove’s coastline from flooding. The Brighton Marina to River Adur Flood and Coastal Erosion Risk Management Scheme is set to launch new rock armour revetments. These tough barriers will be built beside Basin Road South to smash incoming waves and stop erosion in its tracks.
Rock Armour Revetments to Reinforce the Coast
Planning and marine licence applications are already in. Site surveys are ongoing with work expected to kick off this summer—pending final approval. Information boards will pop up around work sites to keep locals updated. The 123 Agency, along with other partners, will chip in to maintain their stretches of the coastline.
Flood Defences Getting a Vital Boost
Rock revetments aren’t the only upgrades planned. Old flood walls that are past their prime will be repaired or replaced. Plus, brand-new timber groynes will be installed along Kings Esplanade to bolster the shoreline further.
Preparing for Rising Tides and Storms
These proactive steps mean Brighton & Hove is stepping up to tackle the challenges of climate change head-on. The enhanced defences aim to protect homes, businesses, and the community from severe flooding now and into the future.
