Dolphin Delight for Brighton's RNLI Crew After Training
What started as a routine training day for Brighton RNLI volunteers turned magical when a cheeky pod of dolphins decided to join the crew on their way back to Brighton Marina.
Dolphins Steal the Show
The RNLI team had spent their Saturday morning sharpening their rescue skills with young swimmers from Saltdean Swim & Surf Club. But as they headed home, two playful dolphins swam alongside their lifeboat, leaping and putting on a spectacular display.
Volunteer Tom Hedges, who caught the moments on his head camera, said: “On our way back to Brighton Marina, we were met by two playful dolphins who put on quite a show, swimming alongside us and leaping impressively. It was an incredible privilege and truly a highlight for the entire crew.”
Training the Next Generation of Lifesavers
The club session was no less impressive. Brighton RNLI volunteers taught local kids aged 7-16 vital sea safety and lifesaving skills. This included assessing injured casualties and safe evacuation techniques onto the lifeboat.
Tom added: “We visited Saltdean Swim & Surf Club, where we trained local children in open water safety. After the drills, we held a floating Q&A in calm waters. Huge thanks to the club volunteers and all the young participants.”
