Bethany Platt’s Cosmetic Surgery Disaster Rocks Coronation Street

Coronation Street is set to deliver a jaw-dropping new storyline as Bethany Platt, played by Lucy Fallon, faces terrifying health consequences after a botched cosmetic surgery abroad. Following liposuction in Turkey, Bethany contracts a life-threatening infection that leaves her with a permanent stoma.

Liposuction Horror Hits Bethany

The drama kicks off when Bethany, taking a job writing for a cosmetic surgery company, decides to have liposuction at their clinic overseas. But things quickly turn dire as she battles a severe infection abroad. Her family scrambles to raise funds to bring her home, complicated by the fact Bethany failed to declare the procedure on her travel insurance.

Lucy Fallon Opens Up on Tough Storyline

“This is really hard-hitting, which is exciting from an actor’s point of view, but it does come with a lot of pressure and responsibility to get it right because this happens to real-life people,” said Fallon.

Lucy hopes the storyline makes viewers think twice about the dangers of cosmetic surgery abroad, pointing to real-life horror stories from patients.

Coronation Street Partners with Charity for Accuracy

The show worked closely with UK charity Colostomy UK to portray Bethany’s stoma journey with sensitivity and realism. Giovanni Cinque, marketing manager at Colostomy UK, praised the decision to highlight life with a stoma on mainstream TV.

“We really hope that Bethany’s journey will go a long way in helping to educate the audience,” said Cinque.

A stoma is a surgically created opening on the abdomen that diverts waste flow. With over 200,000 people in the UK living with stomas, this storyline shines a spotlight on their challenges and raises awareness of the risks linked to overseas cosmetic procedures.
