Dartford Crossing Shuts Lane After Man in Distress Sparks Drama

Police and Ambulance Rush to Scene

The Dartford Crossing was thrown into chaos today after Essex Police responded to welfare concerns for a man spotted on the bridge. At around 12pm, officers and ambulance crews sealed off Lane 1, sparking lengthy delays for drivers heading across this major Thames link.

Man Led to Safety After Two-Hour Stand-off

Following a tense two-hour operation, emergency teams safely guided the man off the bridge. All lanes remained closed until 2pm, with delays snarling traffic for up to an hour. Once the man was in medical care, the crossing fully reopened and traffic began to ease.

Essex Police said: “We were called to an incident on the Dartford Crossing bridge shortly after 12pm today (Saturday, 29 March). Officers responded to concerns for the welfare of a man on the bridge and worked alongside ambulance service colleagues at the scene. The man has been brought to safety and left in the care of medical professionals. This response necessitated the closure of the bridge to traffic.”
